How does a "trickle" charger differ from a regular battery charger?

Typically “trickle chargers” are designed for maintaining the battery during storage periods to help prevent any sulfation that might build on the plates.

Trickle charging a battery is just that “trickle charging” and can be used on almost any kind of battery. Larger batteries; automotive starting batteries and deep cycle batteries would need to be fully charged before attaching a trickle charger because of the size.
